Craig Shoemaker brings “The Lovemaster” to the Santa Clarita!
J.R.’s Comedy Club presents a special night of comedy on November 13, 2010 at 8:00 PM. Nationally acclaimed comedian Craig Shoemaker will take the stage at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons to help raise funds for a Santa Clarita couple who adopted a baby boy in 2008 and are now involved in an emotionally draining and financially devastating contested adoption.
Craig Shoemaker has been named Comedian of the Year by American Comedy Awards on ABC, appeared in HBO’s Comic Relief, Showtime’s Comedy All-Stars, and numerous other television shows. His “Lovemaster” routine was voted Most Popular Comedy on XM Radio’s Big Schtick Awards. Craig’s half-hour Comedy Central special has been voted by viewers as one of the network’s “Top 20″ stand-up specials of all time.
Craig’s feature film credits include the box office hit Scream 2, co-starring opposite Patrick Stewart in Safe House and his featured role opposite Daryl Hannah as her love interest in 2007’s Dark Honeymoon. Last year, Craig won Best Supporting Actor at the Elevate Film Festival. His own film The Lovemaster (with Farrah Fawcett), won “Best Film” honors at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival.
The Baby Bryan Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, was formed not only to assist the adoptive couple in their fight for their son, but also to raise awareness as to the potential complications of open and wrongfully contested adoptions and the emotional and financial impact it can have on the adopting parents and adopted children. Grand Canyon $8.48 Director Lawrence Kasdan’s Grand Canyon is a gathering of random events, uniting the film’s wildly divergent protagonists. Driving home from an LA Lakers game, Mack (Kevin Kline), an immigration attorney, is stranded in an unsavory part of town when his car breaks down. He is rescued from a gang of hoods by Simon (Danny Glover), an African-American tow truck driver, inaugurating a friendship between these two men. Mack offers to repay Simon’s kindness by helping his sister (Tina Lifford) find an apartment in a better neighborhood, and by arranging a blind date between Simon and Jane (Alfre Woodard), a friend of Mack’s secretary Dee (Mary Louise Parker). Woven into this fabric are the tribulations of Mack’s best friend, a pompous exploitation movie producer (Steve Martin), who is later wounded in a robbery similar to the one threatening Mack at the beginning of the film; of Mack’s wife Claire (Mary McDonnell), who adopts an abandoned baby, and disenfranchised son Roberto (Jeremy Sisto); and of Simon’s nephew (Patrick Malone), who is contemplating joining a street gang. The title is symbolic, referring to the class-imposed chasms which would normally separate the characters. Kasdan co-wrote the screenplay with his wife Meg. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi |
